The Amazing Axolotl

The axolotl is an amphibian that is similiar to a salamander. The salamander's life cycle looks like this:

egg <hatches> aquatic nymph <metamorphosis> terrestrial adult

Whereas the axolotl has a life cycle like this:

egg <hatches> aquatic nymph <slight change> aquatic, sexually active nymph

In other words, it never metamorphasizes. It just gains the ability to hanky panky.

However, that doesn't mean it *can't* metamorphasize into an adult. Under some circumstances, it can be inspired to do so!

The other amazing quality of this creature is it's fantastic ability to regenerate, including lost limbs, major organs, or even parts of its own brain.

It also has external gills and is a food source in Mexico. Mmmmm.... axolotl.
